Bespoke Jewellery Storage

Jewellery does not behave like other things kept in a bedroom. A ring, a necklace and a watch each want a different kind of support to stay untangled and unscratched, and a single flat drawer, however well made, tends to let chains knot together and rings roll to the back. Bespoke jewellery storage starts by working out what you actually own — how many rings, necklaces, watches and everyday accessories — before any drawer or compartment is drawn.

Shallow drawers suit jewellery far better than standard-depth ones, since the objects themselves rarely need more than a few centimetres of height, and a shallow drawer keeps everything visible and reachable in one layer rather than piled. We typically specify a bank of shallow drawers rather than one or two deeper ones for exactly this reason, giving more individual compartments across the same overall storage width.

Lined compartments, usually in felt or suede, do two things at once: they cushion pieces against scratching, and their divisions keep individual items separated so a chain does not end up wrapped around a ring. Compartment sizes are worked out against the pieces you actually have — a section for rings differs in shape from one for bracelets, and a run of narrow slots suits rings and studs better than a single open tray would.

Watches bring their own requirements, typically a padded cushion or roll that holds the watch face up and prevents the strap curling awkwardly, and where a collection of any size is involved we specify dedicated watch compartments separately from general jewellery storage rather than mixing the two.

Necklaces are usually the item most prone to tangling in generic storage, and a shallow drawer with narrow lined channels, or a series of small hooks within a compartment, keeps chains separated without needing to be untangled each time the drawer is opened.

Glazed display tops are worth considering where part of a collection is decorative as much as functional — a glazed section over a lined tray lets pieces be seen without being handled daily, combined with lighting to show them well.
