Bespoke Furniture in Leicester

Bespoke kitchens, wardrobes and fitted furniture designed for Leicester homes, made in our Derbyshire workshop and installed by our own team.

Furniture made for Leicester homes

Chester Thomas is a single workshop-based furniture maker, not a network of local branches, and we work across the Midlands including Leicester from our base in Derbyshire. Every piece we make for a Leicester home begins with a measured survey and a design conversation, so the furniture is planned around your actual rooms rather than a standard specification adjusted to fit.

The properties we work with across Leicester range from Victorian terraces and interwar semis to larger contemporary family homes, many of which have been extended or reconfigured over time. That variety means we regularly design around chimney breasts, awkward alcoves and rear extensions with a step in ceiling height, and we take the time at survey stage to understand how each one affects the design.

From bespoke kitchens and fitted wardrobes to media walls, home offices, home bars and general cabinetry, the same process applies throughout: design and survey, manufacture at our Derbyshire workshop, and installation by our own team rather than a subcontracted crew. You can read more about how a project moves from enquiry to completion on our the process page page, or get in touch through the contact page to discuss a Leicester project.

Leicester's mix of period terraces, interwar semis and larger contemporary family homes means our work here spans everything from a single fitted wardrobe to a full open-plan kitchen and media wall project. Whatever the scope, the same measured, considered approach applies, based on the room as it actually is rather than a standard assumption.

Working in Leicester — your questions answered

Do Chester Thomas have a showroom or branch in Leicester?
We are a single workshop-based business in Derbyshire, without a showroom or local branch anywhere else, and we travel out to Leicester for surveys, design conversations and installation as a routine part of how every project runs. There is no separate sales office or regional franchise involved, so the person you speak with about a Leicester project is connected to the same small team who eventually build and fit the furniture, rather than passing your enquiry on to a local representative.
What areas around Leicester do you cover?
We work across Leicester itself and the wider Midlands from our Derbyshire workshop, covering the surrounding towns and villages as part of our normal working area rather than treating them as an exception. Distance from the workshop is not usually a barrier to taking on a project, since surveys, design meetings and installation are all built into the same process wherever the property sits. Get in touch through the contact page with your address and we can confirm straightforwardly whether your specific location is one we can cover.
Do you visit the property before agreeing a design?
A measured survey is carried out in your home as standard before any design work begins, since accurate dimensions, wall lines, ceiling heights and the position of existing features such as a chimney breast or sloped ceiling are essential before furniture can be drawn or manufactured. Working from photographs or estimated measurements alone risks a poor fit once cabinetry reaches site, so we treat the in-person survey as a non-negotiable first step for every Leicester project, whatever the scale of the piece being designed.
How long does a typical bespoke furniture project take?
Timescales vary considerably depending on the scope of the project, from a single fitted piece to a full kitchen or whole-room scheme, and are confirmed once the design has been finalised with you. The overall programme covers the initial survey and design conversation, manufacture at our Derbyshire workshop, and installation on site, with each stage taking longer for a larger or more complex project. We agree a realistic timeframe before manufacture begins, so you have a clear sense of when the finished furniture will actually arrive.
Is furniture made off-site or in the room itself?
Cabinetry is manufactured at our workshop in Derbyshire, using the measurements and drawings agreed with you during the design stage, and is then delivered to Leicester once complete. Our own team carries out installation on site, including any final scribing needed to close cabinetry against an uneven wall, sloped ceiling or old skirting profile, since these small adjustments are usually only possible once the finished piece is actually in the room. This approach keeps manufacture accurate while still allowing for the reality of an existing property.
Do Chester Thomas use subcontracted installers?
Installation is carried out by our own team rather than a subcontracted crew brought in separately for fitting. The people who measure your room, agree the design and build the furniture in our Derbyshire workshop are the same people who return to install it, so anyone on site already understands the reasoning behind the design and how the piece was constructed, rather than working from drawings alone as an outside fitter might.
How do you protect my home during installation?
We protect flooring, staircases and doorways used to bring materials and cabinetry into the room, and work methodically through the space to limit disruption to the areas actually being fitted. The scale of protection needed depends on the project, since a single fitted wardrobe in an accessible bedroom involves far less than a kitchen installation with multiple deliveries. We talk through what to expect before work begins, so you know how the rest of the house will be affected while installation is under way.
How much does bespoke furniture typically cost?
Cost depends on the type of furniture being made, its size, the materials, finishes and hardware specified, any lighting or appliances involved, and the complexity of the site, including how much scribing or coordination with other trades is needed. Because every piece is designed individually rather than drawn from a fixed range, we do not quote a figure without seeing the space first. Please get in touch through the contact page to arrange a survey and discuss your Leicester project in detail.
Do you provide a written quotation before manufacture begins?
A detailed specification and quotation follow the design and survey stage, itemising materials, hardware, lighting and installation, so you know exactly what is included before agreeing to proceed with manufacture. This is deliberately produced after the design conversation rather than as an initial estimate, since an accurate figure depends on the exact configuration, finish and scale agreed with you. Any change you want to make once you see the quotation is discussed and agreed before it affects the price.
Does the quotation change once manufacture has started?
The quotation is based on the specification agreed with you before manufacture begins, so it should not change once work is under way unless you request an alteration to that agreed specification, such as a different worktop material or an added appliance housing. If a genuine change is requested during the project, we discuss the effect on both the design and the price with you before proceeding, rather than adjusting the figure without explanation partway through.
